Biotechnology student on behalf of Efra Sariyunardi and team, successfully won a silver medal at the ASEAN INNOVATIVE SCIENCE & ENTREPRENEUR FAIR (AISEF) 2020 event organized by the Young Scientist Association (IYSA). The event was held in Surabaya to be precise at BG JUNCTION MALL on February 14-16, 2020.
Through a research innovation entitled The Effectiveness of Ketapang Leaf Extract Phenol (Terminalia catappa) as A Natural Carrier for Venaname Shrimp (Litopenaeus vennamei) as A Chloramphenicol Substitute, Efra Sariyunardi and the team made a breakthrough in innovating a natural preservative to replace chloramphenicol which is commonly used in the preservation process for Venaname shrimp. Based on the research conducted, it was concluded that the Ketapang Leaf Extract Phenol was proven to be effective in maintaining the freshness of Venaname shrimp. This innovation is intended to help maintain the freshness of shrimp up to the hands of consumers.
AISEF itself is a combination of competitions and exhibitions in the field of Science and Invention, which is participated by elementary students to university students. In addition, AISEF is also an event designed for young researchers both from Indonesia and abroad to showcase their research results and inventions.
According to the President of IYSA, Deni Irawan, the special purpose of holding AISEF is to increase the interest of Indonesian students in particular and international students in general in the world of research and invention. In addition, it can provide opportunities for students in Indonesia to present their research results and inventions at the event.
“The general objective of AISEF is to introduce Indonesian intellectual property, especially the research work and inventions of young Indonesian researchers in the international arena, which are held in their own country, because so far IYSA has been active in delivering research works and inventions from young Indonesian researchers in various international events and seeing children’s work in the field of science and invention are remarkable.” Said Deni Irawan.
