Webinar Series: The Role of Biotechnology in Increasing Local Biological Resources
Biotechnologi Undergraduate Program of Diponegoro University on Saturday October 31, 2020 had organized a Webinar Series 2 Biotechnology. The event carried the theme “The Role of Biotechnology in Increasing Local Biological Resources”. The event was held online through the Zoom Meeting and Microsoft Teams applications. Followed by over 90 participants, the event went well by presenting Dr.rer.nat. Anto Budiharjo, M.Biotech as the keynote speaker.
Dr.rer.nat. Anto Budiharjo, M.Biotech presented a material related to Biotechnology of Extreme Environment a Metagenomic Approach. In his presentation, He explained that it was difficult to culture microbial isolates which came from nature especially in extreme environment, for instance a high temperature environment. Only 1% of the total microbes from natural sources can be cultured in vitro. So that made it difficult to know the data for the types of microbes that exist. The metagenomic approach provides a good opportunity in knowing the types of microbes that exist in nature without the need to be cultured in artificial media first. So that the analysis process of microbial types in nature can be carried out thoroughly and efficiently. In addition, this approach can open up opportunities to exploring the potential of natural microbes for humankind.
After presentation by the keynote speaker, it was followed by presentations about the results of scientific research from the students who became presenters. A total of 20 presenters presented their presentations. The presentation session was divided into 3 presentation rooms. Out of 20 presenters, 3 of them were appointed as the best presenters from each presentation room. They were Romario Dion, Anita Jayanti and Nabilla Adiya Maharani.
