Semarang, October 7, 2025 — The Biotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University, once again held an Online Visiting Professor Lecture entitled “Innovations in Industrial Biotechnology: Metabolic Engineering for Sustainable Biofuel Production.” This event is part of the World Class University (WCU) program, aimed at strengthening international collaboration and broadening academic perspectives in the fields of industrial biotechnology and renewable energy.
The lecture featured Assoc. Prof. Ali Samy Abdelaal, Ph.D., an Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics at Damietta University, Egypt, and a Research Scientist at the Toulouse Biotechnology Institute (TBI), INSA Toulouse, France. Prof. Abdelaal is an expert in molecular genetics, metabolic engineering, and sustainable biofuel production. In his presentation, he highlighted recent advances in microbial metabolic engineering for environmentally friendly biofuel production and emphasized the importance of synthetic biology approaches in developing modern industrial biotechnology to support energy resilience and climate change mitigation.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Prof. Dr. Dra. Endang Kusdiyantini, D.E.A., as the Chairperson of the Committee, followed by the main lecture and an interactive discussion moderated by Siti Roswiyah, S.Si., M.Biotech., a lecturer from the Biotechnology Study Program, Diponegoro University.
Through this event, participants — including undergraduate students, lecturers, and researchers in the field of biotechnology — gained new insights into current research trends in biofuel and genetic engineering. Beyond enriching academic knowledge, the lecture also aimed to strengthen research networks between Diponegoro University and international institutions.
The session was held online via Zoom at 2:00 PM (WIB) and concluded with a Q&A session and closing remarks. Through this Visiting Professor Lecture, the Biotechnology Study Program of Diponegoro University reaffirmed its commitment to advancing biotechnology research and fostering sustainable innovation on a global scale.
