Bangkok, May 23, 2025 — Two undergraduate students from the Biotechnology Study Program at Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Annisa Wina Sabilla and Rayhan Dhito Arimbi Putri, have successfully presented their research findings at the Center of Excellence for Shrimp Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (CENTEX SHRIMP) in Thailand. This presentation marks the culmination of their six-month research internship at the esteemed institution.
Annisa’s research, titled “Effects of Dietary Supplementation with Bacillus subtilis var. natto on Growth Performance and Lysozyme Gene Expression in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Infected with Flavobacterium (columnare) oreochromis” explored the potential of probiotic supplementation in enhancing fish health and resistance to bacterial infections. Under the guidance of Dr.rer.nat Anto Budiharjo, S.Si., M.Biotech. from the Biotechnology Study Program at UNDIP and co-advisor Dr. Chumporn Soowannayan from CENTEX SHRIMP, her study provided insights into the immunological responses of Nile tilapia to dietary interventions.
Rayhan’s study, titled “Effects of Dietary Lacticaseibacillus casei on Growth Performance, Immune Response, and Disease Resistance Against Aeromonas hydrophila in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)” focused on evaluating the efficacy of probiotic strains in improving fish growth parameters and immune responses. Her research contributes to the understanding of sustainable aquaculture practices aimed at reducing reliance on antibiotics.
Both students’ research endeavors align with UNDIP’s commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and fostering international collaborations in the field of biotechnology and aquaculture. Their work not only contributes to the academic community, but also holds practical implications for sustainable fish farming practices.
